Infernal Contraption

About a week ago a news story came up in my RSS feed going on about how the US had dismantled its largest, and one of its oldest, nuclear bombs. The article, of course, forgot to mention that there are somewhere on the order of 23,000 nuclear weapons left in the world and that the US possesses about 8,000 of them.

Furthermore, dropping a massive cold war era bomb from an airplane doesn't really seem practical when such ordinance can be delivered by a missile at the push of a button.

Well, on the bright side, that is one down. Only 22,999 to go.

(I actually painted this, before the story broke, for an IF challenge. It is a painting of the Fat Man bomb that killed near 80,000 people - mostly civilians - in Nagasaki. It caused many more to suffer serious injury and lasting health problems. Truly an Infernal Contraption.)
